As we gather our thoughts and hearts during these trying times, we find ourselves reflecting on the recent events that have unfolded in Lebanon. What was meant to be a joyful Monday—September 16—filled with the excitement of the new school year for our kindergarten students quickly turned into a day marked by fear and uncertainty.
Around 11:00 AM, a deafening sound of bombing echoed through our community, a stark reminder of the fragility of peace. In an instant, Br. Juan Carlos made the difficult but necessary decision for our staff to prioritize safety and return home. The day took a harrowing turn as the situation escalated, with multiple targets struck in the south, in Beqaa, and in Beirut.
In just two weeks, our beloved Lebanon has faced unimaginable losses, with over 2,000 lives claimed, more than 6,000 individuals injured and 1 Million displaced. These numbers reflect not just statistics, but the heartache of families and communities torn apart by violence.
At Fratelli, our mission has always been to support vulnerable displaced children, who are now facing even greater challenges amid this turmoil.
Many of these children are already in precarious situations, and the recent escalation has only heightened their vulnerability. They need our help more than ever.
We stand together, united in our commitment to provide educational and social support to these children, ensuring that they find solace and hope amidst the chaos. It is our responsibility to safeguard their futures and nurture their dreams, even when the world around them seems uncertain.
